A temporary outdoor gallery has been unveiled across the hoardings for a new community centre in south Bristol, featuring designs created by young people and local artists in the area. On display until summer 2026, the artwork is a culmination of a year-long project organised by community leaders in response to the redevelopment of Filwood Broadway.

Primary school children worked closely with local artists, using recycled and scrap materials and archive photographs to create collages celebrating the past, present and future of the area. We spoke to some of the children and facilitators involved in the project:

Ivan, aged nine: ‘It feels amazing to see our art up there. I feel like we’re famous!’.

Theodore, also aged nine: ‘Every time I see it, it makes me emotional!’

Dani Hale, local artist and Community Engagement Coordinator at Knowle West Media Centre, coordinated the final stage of the project. She said ‘I felt it was really important that we continued the work created during Filwood in Motion last year. They had already done a lot around the history of the street, but I wanted to make this about the kids and how they see where they live’.

We supported this project with print and installation.
