3rd - 7th February
Love Paper is launching a new initiative to champion paper and sustainability to consumers and businesses alike. This initiative aims to break down misconceptions about paper, celebrate its unique qualities, and highlight its role in a more sustainable future.
Here's everything you need to know.
In an era dominated by screens, paper retains its timeless charm and functionality. Whether it's a beautifully printed book, sleek packaging, or a creatively crafted advertisement, paper has a unique ability to touch our lives.
Beyond its tactile appeal, paper is:
Renewable: Made from responsibly managed forests, paper is a resource we can replenish.
Recyclable: Paper boasts an impressive recycling rate, contributing to circular economies.
Creative: It's a medium that fosters innovation and brings ideas to life.
Despite these attributes, misconceptions about paper persist. According to recent statistics, 37% of European consumers believe paper and paper packaging is harmful to the environment. Additionally, only 18% of people think the paper recycling rate exceeds 60%. When in reality paper recycling in Europe is a staggering 79%—the highest of any material on the continent.
To make paper even more sustainable, European forests, where 90% of the region sources their materials from, have been growing by an area equivalent to 1,500 football pitches every day. Ensuring that we are giving back to the land and thinking ahead.
One strong example of a brand who have demonstrated the possibilities of paper packaging is Nestlé. In 2021 Nestlé transitioned all of their ‘Smarties' packaging to paper.
This movement was part of the company's commitment to making all packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025. They have shown that with a little work and the desire to do so, companies can make the switch and remain incredibly profitable.
Running from the 3rd to the 7th of February, Love Paper Week is an invitation for everyone involved in the paper industry—printers, paper merchants, packaging manufacturers, and beyond to get involved and help debunk some of these misconceptions.
Why This Matters
As a print and advertising company, we're acutely aware of the need to align with sustainable practices and communicate them effectively. By participating in Love Paper Week, we're not only supporting the industry but also ensuring that consumers and businesses understand the true value of paper.
