Driver & Advertisement Board Fitter

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the largest arts festival in the world. We are working in partnership with Edinburgh City Council and The Fringe Society again this year and looking for Drivers and Advertisement board fitters to work with us on our Edinburgh Fringe External Advertising Contract.

Out of Hand is an established Design, Print and Distribution specialist based in Bristol and Edinburgh. We are the operators of the official Outdoor Advertisement scheme for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and have a fantastic reputation for our Print & Distribution services in the Events & Leisure sector and are on the current Edinburgh City Council's approved suppliers list.

Out of Hand is contracted to handle all aspects of the Edinburgh Fringe Outdoor Advertisement scheme, this covers various aspects such as building advertisement structures, printing and installing advertisement boards, maintenance and break down. In 2019 the project saw us install over 7km of posters throughout the entire city with more than 130 national and international clients, including some of the largest entertainment management companies and comedy promoters within the industry. Our 2023 project is on track to be on a similar scale.

The Role:

Drivers and Board Fitters will make up the majority of the team in Edinburgh and will be involved in structure assembly, poster installation and maintenance, and project clear down. You will work directly under the Senior Build Supervisor and be assigned to a Build Supervisor each day. Depending on which vehicles our insurance qualifies you to drive, you will assist in the distribution of Heras panels and feet to advertising sites in the initial stages of the project followed by the Correx poster boards. You will be expected to feedback progress and issues to your build supervisor who can then escalate these to upper management.

You may be expected to download our company specific apps onto your personal phone in order to assist in the flow of information and Proof of Posting process. All Drivers and Board Fitters must wear company specific uniform and PPE at all times whilst at work. The ideal candidate for this role should be prepared for a fast-paced team environment, where they will be working outside under direction and responsible for various aspects of this project.

Duties will include:

• Building the advertising structures around central Edinburgh and ferrying equipment to and from the warehouse to the build teams.
• Installing the advertisement boards on structures. This will involve using our bespoke scanning software to scan posters onto the site and engaging in our Proof of Posting process which the Operations Manager and Senior Warehouse Manager will explain to you.
• Driving and assisting with the distribution or delivery of advertisement material to locations in Central Edinburgh.
• Maintaining the advertisement boards and structures, including assisting the Clean Supervisor with maintaining street furniture.
• Assisting with the clearing down of the advertisement boards and project disassembly.
• As a driver, you will need to adhere to our Drivers Policy at all times.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• A full, clean driving licence
• Strong communication skills
• Highly professional manner
• An ability to build on and develop strong relationships
• Have attended and/or have a good understanding of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
• Have experience driving/navigating through the streets of Edinburgh.

Further Information

The Project will run from Monday 10th July until Friday 15th September 2023.

We will be running a 7 day a week operation and looking at running some night shifts this year.

Daytime shifts from 8.00am to 6.00pm. Evening shifts from 6.00pm to 2.00am.

Overtime will be available if candidates are interested and paid at an enhanced rate of 1.25 times the standard hourly rate per hour worked over 42.5 hours in the week.

Any evening work undertaken between 10pm and 7am will also equate to an enhanced rate of 1.5 times hourly rate.

The ideal candidate should have experience in this type of work, the ability to undertake physical labouring duties and be able to commit to working the whole duration of the project.

Vehicles / insurance and uniforms will be supplied. Please bring your own steel toe caps.
